I did a presentation on this movie when I was in highschool! Interesting thing I learned was that director Darabont was surprised by how popular the movie was with women, considering that there are no female characters. He decided it must be because they liked the themes of close loving friendship. I liked it because it"s a great story with great characters.

The Friends pipe scene here was funnier than the entire series of Friends. This scene is brilliant. Morgan Freeman summing up his hearing for release beautifully. No more rehearsed speeches. This time he tells it as it is. What he did. How sorry he was he did it. But he is fed up of being shit on by these men. Do whatever you want is basically his attitude and it is enough to convince them this man is ready for a life outside the walls of Shawshank prison. He has served his time and deserves his freedom now. I was born in Mansfield Ohio my daddy would drive us by the reformatory and say that"s were bad people go none of us ever went to jail. The mug shot is Morgan Freeman"s son. Notice how with each parole hearing, the board members change. At first, it"s the fairly stereotypical old white men, then each subsequent hearing, the board gets a bit younger and there is a woman at the final one. Reflects the many social changes that occurred in the 40 years Red was behind bars.

Damn that group of people received a speech by Morgan Freeman. Even though they were acting, still I would never forget such an experience. Better ending than Game of Thrones. Why he chose to escape on Taco Night, I"ll never know... Lol the friends part was my favorite in this episode.
